A Brief Introduction to Risk and Insurance Research Branch of China Civil Engineering Society

Risk and Insurance Research Brach of China Civil Engineering Society, affiliated with Tongji University, was founded in June 25^th, 2009. Branch is subordinate to China Civil Engineering Society, the predecessor of which is the Chinese Institute of Engineers set up by our outstanding modern engineer Zhan Tianyou. Under the command of this society, there have been many branches like the Bridge and Structure, the Tunneling and Underground Engineering, the Soil Mechanics and Foundation, the Concrete and Stress Concrete, the Port Engineering, the Municipal Engineering, the Urban Public Traffic, the Urban Coal Gas, the Water Supply and Drainage, the Protection Engineering, the Computer Application, the Construction Market and Bidding, the Research of the Project Method Construction, etc.

With the rapid development of China's urbanization process, the urban rail transit, railway, highway, water conservancy and other infrastructure construction project have been expanding in large scale. However, the uncertainties of project conditions may lead to engineering risk, and the recent accidents highlight the grim situation of the engineering risk and safety management. Therefore, the engineering risks and their insurance have been the focus of the central government, every administrations, research institutions and enterprises.

The aim of the branch is to conduct various forms of academic and research activities, to organize branch members to attend domestic and international academic activities, to promote new technologies in engineering risk management and insurance, to further development and improvement of the whole civil engineering.
